So wow! Hi everyone. I haven't blogged in a while! Two week to be exact. But not to worry this is the start of at least three blogs coming out this week. Just end of last month, the 3rd week of September actually, I attended the Mount Olive Church of God Singles and Married Conference in Orange, New Jersey. I was so excited for it! Guest and featured speakers were Cornelius and Heather Lindsey!
Who is Heather and Cornelius Lindsey? For those that may not know they are the founding and current pastor's of The Gathering Oasis Church in Atlanta, Georgia. They seek to create disciples of Christ in every facet of one's lives, in particular relationships. Since giving their life to Christ they determined to live a life for him. These two waited till their marriage day to kiss for the first time, proving when you honor God, God will honor you.
I was able to attend three sessions. Two by Heather, with Cornelius joining for a Q&A, and one with Cornelius preaching a Sunday evening service.
Let's get into it. I pray this blesses you the reader reading it.
Title: I AM DROWNDING: Woman's only session
Speaker: Heather Lindsey
John 7:4 NLT
You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!”
Hebrews 12: 1-2 NLT
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
- We need to get rid of the weights drowning us down, as women of God.
- Some of these weights include being envious and jealous of others. Like looking up an down a person's facebook page. Facbook is a highlighting Reel, that people only display what THEY want to show you. Heather talks more about it on her blog, she blogged about it after this conference HERE
- Identify the weight in your life and strip it off
- We need to be careful who we marry because it creates generational curses: Leviticus 26
- Pass the tests God gives you in your life with a meek and quiet spirit.
- Ways of lessening weights in the workplace is creating a sense of peace in your office space.
Acts 3 1-7 NLT
(Talks about the poor man at the gate called beautiful)
Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.
After Heather read this passage, she challenges the ladies to not let the weights in our individual lives cloud our love and help we can give others. Next time we see someone on the street asking for money, why don't we offer to pray for them, because prayer alleviates stress and heals!
We then have a 10 minute prayer session where we are told to pray with the sisters around us. It was nice to meet the other woman who came and to get to know each other in prayer.
We then go into a Q & A session where Cornelius and the guys join us.
I asked two questions:
1. How do you feel about different physical convictions in the Body of Christ?
Cornelius answers and says there will be differences in the body of Christ and to stick with your convictions. God shows different people different things that is of help to someone.
2. How do the Lindsey's study the bible?
Cornelius suggests you ask the 5 W's (Who, What, Where, Why, When) through out each passage you read. He also uses different translations and bible's with a great concordances. Heather studies on subjects that she may need answers to.It was a great session, and I continually cast my cares unto God. No Weights allowed!
Title: Spiritual Adultery
Speaker: Heather Lindsey
- Adultery comes from the Greek word "Adulturiem", meaning toward and alter; together is means moving towards another to make our own personal arraignments.
- Spiritual Adultery is moving away from God.
- Whenever you feel a check in your heart, it is God telling you, you are moving away from him.
- Who are you committing spiritual adultery with? Who is your third party?
(Heather Lindsey & I)
FRIEND WITH THE WORLD
James 4:4 (NLT)
You adulterers![ Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
Ezekiel 16 (NLT)
(Entire chapter)
Ask yourself these:
- You claim to love God but cultivate a relationship with someone else other than God.
- You profess to be a Christian yet find real love the adversary offers.
- What is capturing your attention?
Heather then talks about music and how spiritual adultery can come from Secular Music that doesn't glorify God. She clicks a light-bulb on, when she says Music was the devils ministry in Heaven. Now the devil has fallen and rules earth, so no wonder Music is being used to pull so many people away from Christ. Heather actually blogs about it HERE!
Heather mentioned a great website to answer any biblical questions in a practical sense. Gotquestions.org. I checked it out and it's great!
Title: When you've lost the fear of God
Speaker: Cornelius Lindsey
Judges 17:6 (AMP)
In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.
Proverbs 14:12(AMP)
There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death.
These verses show when there is no authority; everyone has their own mindset and thinks they are right. Cornelius identifies he will be talking about exposing the wounds and then providing the solution with Christ.
Wounds:
- FALSE HOPE: Puts people in bondage. Grace does not permit one to continue to sin, but keep you from sin!
- SUGAR COATED SERMONS: Gives you a sweet tooth for sin.
- DON'T JUDGE ME: God is the ultimate judge and gives you the ultimate verdict. John 3:20
Proverbs 8:13 (AMP)
The reverent fear and worshipful awe of the Lord [includes] the hatred of evil; pride, arrogance, the evil way, and perverted and twisted speech I hate.
Proverbs 16:6 AMP
By mercy and love, truth and fidelity [to God and man—not by sacrificial offerings], iniquity is purged out of the heart, and by the reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord men depart from and avoid evil.
1 Peter 1:17,18,19,20 AMP
When one loses the fear of the Lord:
- One-ceases from being at Peace
- You become easily offended
- You create lose boundaries and boarders around sin
- One indulges perversion
- One spends less & less time with God, praying & fasting
- We side with disobedience of lawlessness. (The men don't need the woman's complaints but prayers for the brothers of our generation)
- Begin to focus on situationnal circumstances
- We no longer await Christ's return (Titus 2)
- We ignore the great commission
